Kaivalya Pāda · Sutra 30

ततः क्लेशकर्मनिवृत्तिः

tataḥ kleśakarmanivṛttiḥ

From that comes the cessation of afflictions and karma.

The result of dharmamegha samādhi is the complete cessation (nivṛtti) of the kleśas (afflictions) and karma (binding action).

The five afflictions that have driven the cycle of suffering since beginningless time finally extinguish: ignorance, ego, attachment, aversion, and fear of death. Without fuel, the fire of saṃsāra goes out.

Simultaneously karma ceases. It is not that the body stops acting, but that actions no longer produce new seeds. The yogī can continue functioning in the world, but without creating new bondages.

Prārabdha karma, the karma already in motion that produced the current body, may continue until naturally exhausted. But sañcita (accumulated) and kriyamāṇa (new) are definitively ended.

It is like a potter’s wheel that keeps spinning for a while after the foot stops pushing it. Previous momentum exhausts; no new momentum is added.

This is the end of the cycle: without afflictions to motivate, without karma to bind.
