There is continuity between memory and impressions even though separated by birth, place, and time, due to their identity of form.

Vāsanās know no boundaries of space or time. Impressions created many lives ago can manifest today because smṛti (memory) and saṃskāra (impression) share the same essential nature.

Jāti (birth), deśa (place), and kāla (time) are categories organizing phenomenal experience, but subconscious impressions transcend them.

It is like water that can evaporate here, travel as cloud, and fall as rain on another continent years later. It changes form and location, but its essence remains.

This continuity explains phenomena such as spontaneous memories of past lives, inexplicable phobias, or innate talents. The subconscious repository keeps everything recorded.

For the yogī, this underscores the importance of purifying impressions: what we sow now inevitably germinates, even in a distant future.
