By the absence of ignorance, union disappears; that is liberation, the isolation of the seer.

When avidyā ceases, saṃyoga ends. The result is hāna (abandonment of suffering) and kaivalya (liberation).

Kaivalya literally means “solitude” or “isolation.” It is not physical isolation, but the recognition of puruṣa as absolutely independent of prakṛti.

Tad-dṛśeḥ: “of the seer.” Liberation is the natural condition of puruṣa, not something new that is acquired.

This sutra presents the ultimate goal of yoga: the cessation of ignorance leads to the dissolution of false union, which results in the establishment of the seer in its own nature.

It is a return to what always was.
