Although [the seen] disappears for the one whose purpose is fulfilled, it is not destroyed, for it is common to others.

When a puruṣa attains kaivalya, prakṛti ceases to exist for him. But it is not annihilated, because other puruṣas still need it.

Kṛtārtha is “one whose purpose is fulfilled,” the liberated one.

Pratinaṣṭa means “destroyed for him,” but anaṣṭa, “not destroyed” at all.

Sādhāraṇatva is the quality of being common or shared. Prakṛti is a common field for innumerable puruṣas.

This sutra resolves a possible objection: if the world exists for the seer, does it disappear when someone becomes liberated? No, because it is common to all who still need it.
