The storehouse of karma, rooted in the afflictions, is experienced in visible and invisible births.

Karmāśaya is the storehouse where the impressions of all actions accumulate. This storehouse has its root in the kleśas: we act driven by ignorance, attachment, aversion.

Dṛṣṭa (visible) refers to this life; adṛṣṭa (invisible) to future lives. The accumulated karma may bear fruit now or wait for appropriate conditions.

This sutra introduces the doctrine of karma and rebirth. Actions tainted by the kleśas generate seeds that will determine future experiences.

Liberation requires not only stopping the accumulation of new karma, but also exhausting or burning the stored karma.
