Samādhi Pāda · Sutra 49
श्रुतानुमानप्रज्ञाभ्यामन्यविषया विशेषार्थत्वात्
śruta-anumāna-prajñābhyām anya-viṣayā viśeṣa-arthatvāt
This [wisdom] has a different object than wisdom from testimony or inference, because it apprehends the particular.
Ṛtambharā prajñā differs fundamentally from ordinary knowledge obtained through:
- Śruta — What is heard, testimony of others or scriptures
- Anumāna — Logical inference
These types of knowledge are general and abstract. The wisdom of samādhi, however, grasps viśeṣa — the particular, the specific, the thing itself.
It is the difference between knowing about fire through description and experiencing fire directly. The knowledge of samādhi is immediate, experiential, irrefutable because it is based on direct experience, not on concepts.
