Kaivalya Pāda · Sutra 2

जात्यन्तरपरिणामः प्रकृत्यापूरात्

jātyantarapariṇāmaḥ prakṛtyāpūrāt

The transformation from one form of existence to another occurs through the overflow of nature.

This sutra explains the mechanism of evolution and state change. Prakṛti, primordial nature, contains all possible forms in potential.

When conditions are appropriate, nature overflows (āpūra) toward new manifestations. Nothing new is created; what was latent is simply actualized.

Evolutionary changes, including the awakening of siddhis, occur when obstacles that impeded natural flow are removed. Like water held by a dam, prakṛti flows wherever it finds an opening.

The yogī does not create powers; they simply remove obstructions that prevented the natural manifestation of capacities inherent to consciousness.

This understanding is fundamental: spiritual transformation is not acquisition but revelation of what was always present.
