Sādhana Pāda · Sutra 55
ततः परमा वश्यतेन्द्रियाणाम्
tataḥ paramā vaśyatendriyāṇām
From this arises supreme mastery over the senses.
This sutra closes the Sādhana Pāda. From perfect pratyāhāra arises paramā vaśyatā, supreme mastery over the senses.
Vaśyatā is control, mastery, having under one’s power. Paramā is supreme, complete.
The senses, which previously dragged attention compulsively toward objects, are now under the command of the will. The yogi can direct attention where they want, maintain it where they want.
This mastery is not violent repression but natural command. The senses, well trained, become allies instead of obstacles.
With pratyāhāra, the five external limbs conclude. The Vibhūti Pāda will continue with dhāraṇā, dhyāna, and samādhi.
