Samādhi Pāda · Sutra 21

तीव्रसंवेगानामासन्नः

tīvra-saṃvegānām āsannaḥ

For those with intense practice, [attainment] is near.

Saṃvega means spiritual urgency, intensity, fervor. Those who practice with burning passion and unwavering determination attain samādhi more quickly.

It is not about quantity of hours but quality of commitment. A practitioner with tīvra saṃvega (burning intensity) maintains practice as an absolute priority. Every moment becomes an opportunity for practice.

This sutra offers hope: attainment is not reserved for an elite nor does it require countless lifetimes. The intensity of effort can compress time. The question for each practitioner is: how urgent is my search for liberation really?
